"See there are artists that can revisit rock-n-roll’s greatest hits without coming out as generic and wishy-washy as Lenny Kravitz. One perfect example is The Volunteers who shrug off the nuisance of their “The” title, not opting for a typical garage retro rock sound that most of those “The” bands have been employing lately. Sure they have a quick look around at The Rolling Stones and on songs like “Whore” and “Lolita” have as much swagger as Jagger could muster in his pre-40’s, but there not this lame creation of a major label to appeal to the sound of the moment. For a debut this is damn strong and will easily be marketable out of the close reaches of their native New York City."

"The Volunteers' self-released, self-titled album serves up sleazy, indisputably wrong scuzz-rock along the lines of the album-opener "Whore," which demands to know, "Whatever happened to sex and drugs? / I don't give a fuck about rock 'n' roll." The band's sensitive side comes out in "Homos," a mini-essay on evolution and political correctness, while "Blanket Of Drugs" is softly, sweetly pro-narcotic."

"THE VOLUNTEERS (the thevolunteersrock.com)
The first two songs ("So Deep for so Cheap," & "Whore") are straight out-of-the-box, sex/drugs/ rock 'n roll, punk rock tunes!! I mean yeah, it's the same old story, but The Volunteers add some poignant lyrics and social commentary laced with humor. They make an old story fresh again, all the while rockin' out. These guys dish out pure animal joy and atomic rage all through this disc. An explosion of punk rock noise and lead singer/guitarist Dan Goddard's evil, menacing (think Iggy Pop) snarl. Songs like "Real Man" & "Blanket of Drugs" are a shock wave of big-amp purity, the likes of which doesn't get heard much. You'll also hear some cool vulnerable pop sensibilities woven through the lyrics, and Goddard's hyper-kinetic vocals. The Volunteers can walk that fine line between 'fuck-'em-all/I don't give a shit choruses, and well-meaning sincerity. That's what makes this a masterpiece!"

"The Volunteers are a 3 piece power house pop/rock trio from Brooklyn,
NY, who know how to play rock n roll and know what it's all about.
In these days where myopic indie college rock is polluting the radio waves and large record companies are cashing in (like they always do) on half assed Rock musicians, it's a blessing to hear a band such as The Volunteers. Finally, something fresh again.
No politics, a dose of humor and a lot of heart.
Sex, drugs and Rock n Roll, folks.
Their debut album features 12 new tracks. Their influences range from Elvis Costello, the Jam, AC/DC, Prince, Tom Petty and Adam Sandler.
Key tracks: Homos I find it ironic. What I enjoy about this song is that, although very humorous, if you listen closely, it also has an underlying message. Like all good songs or a Roger Corman film, it says something important through much more entertaining medium. Whether or not this was the intention of this young band. I don't know.
Another track, Kill Your Parents, could very well be considered a ballad for the next generation. Catchy as hell and as smooth as the silk panties your girlfriend will be wearing on prom night. It's such an honest and endearing approach, but it's not Punk. Thank God!"

THE VOLUNTEERS send us their first album and yes, it rocks! Nice one lads! When are you coming to town? Rock licks with funky struts and a touch of the blues and a good sense of humor. These 3 boyz got talent. This is worth a dime in the jukebox! So, yeah…

"Thought I would give you guys some feedback! I love your CD. I don't think I've ever purchased a CD online, but after listening to your songs on MySpace I had to hear the whole thing. It's great. It's fun, the music & lyrics both rock, and... well... I just like it. Hopefully you'll tour outside of California sometime... not that I'd expect anybody to be excited to tour where I am... hickville Kansas!"
